Shame, Shame, Shame! Someone has been caught with egg on the face!

This week my manager was caught in an embarrassing situation. She made a racial comment to one of my co workers. The thing is that this comment was made in front of not only my co-worker, but in front of many more. I was witness to this racial slur. I could not believe what I had heard. When my co-worker stood up for himself and put my, our manager in her place, she began to apologize. By then it was too late. The damage had been done. She then tried to explain to the rest of the group that what she had said was wrong and she should not have said what she said. So now my manager is left to eat crow so to speak. I feel so bad for my co-worker. He was not only slandered by harsh, racial words, but he was told so in front of many of his peers. I'm sure he must have felt very small. This is not the first time that my manager has made staff feel small and doubt their self worth. She has made me feel insignificant a time or two in my time working for her. I really hope that this does not continue. I hope that she will be stopped once and for all for what she tries to pull. Our policy at work is zero tolerance to harassment of any kind. I hope my manager will be put in her place once and for all. Enough is enough already. Harassment is harassment whether it is in jest or not. My manager did send out an apology saying that she was only joking and that she should not have said what she did. But like I said the damage has been done. Words hurt!

It is never a consolation to know that the abuser is or had been a victim, but she sounds like she needs help. That should be a requirement from management - especially, if this is an ongoing problem on various levels toward other employees included. Sorry. I think your colleague may actually benefit for having it happen in front of others - they, as you, are taking his side and therefore giving him a protective layer and that is a pretty major 'nice' feeling.

You are such a wonderful person. Your co-worker is blessed to have a friend like you.

It is sometimes tough to stand-up for ourselves at times and that incident was a good reminder to her to stop being abusive.

Have a good day at work regardless.

About this time you all should of came down hard on her and voiced your complaint to her in front of everybody. No way I am just being mean. God will work it out, I am sure

Yes, words said without thinking can hurt. This happened to my parents yesterday at our church. My parents(who don't go to church) came to support my son on his baptism. During the time when people are supposed get up and shake hands say hi and to go around and welcome newcomers... A lady walks up to them and says, I wondered why u were here. How welcoming was that? I am so hoping my Dad(who is hard of hearing) didnt hear her, he is cynical enough of Christians. Words said in haste can change a persons perspective of the world. I HOPE I am more upset about this than they are. PEOPLE! Sorry about the rant.

Yeah for you Wandi to be a friend to your coworker. As far as your manager...why do people say mean things, and then excuse it by saying...oh, it was a joke, or I was just kidding...give me a break! When will people learn!
