Driving to work yesterday morning at 5:20 a.m. I came across an unusual sight. At first I thought I saw what looked like a large dog crossing the intersection. I did a doubble take, and what my sleepy eyes saw, was a deer crossing right in front of me. I was in no danger of hitting it because I was slowing to turn at the intersection. I made my turn and came to a stop. In my rearview mirror I could see the deer cross back again to the other side of the road. For a minute I had a flashback of a TV series that aired several years back. The show was called "Northern Exposure." It starred Rob Morrow as Dr. Joel Fleishman. Any way the opening scenes were of this Northern town in Alaska and there was a clip of a moose trotting down main street. For the little northern town it was not so out of the ordinary. But here in the city I live in, it was a strange sight indeed. I did not have a cell phone on me so I could not call any one to tell them that there was a deer in the city. Other cars were also slowing down as well. Maybe they had cell phones to notify, whoever about the deer. Even if I did have cell phone who would I call. Would it be 911. It wasn't an emergency. I suppose it could be if a car had hit the deer. That would be tragic. But seriouly, who do you call in such a situation? I can just hear the conversation now. " hello 911 , what is your emergency?" ???? " No emergency, it's just that there is a deer walking a cross the cross walk on Dewdney St." I think it even had the right of way." Don't you think that would be very wierd. The operator might tell me to go back to sleep. Or have another drink. So I just carried on to work, letting poor Bambi fend for it self. Oh now I feel really guilty. I should maybe have knocked on someones house to ask to use there phone. Ya right! Wake them up at 5 in the morning. I don't think so. Not everyone gets up so early. I did get to work still thinking of the deer. One of my co workers said she saw a deer on Dewdney. Whew. I don't know why I needed to be verified. I was not asleep and dreaming. I am not going crazy. I did not have way tooo much to drink. It was real . So now I'm left wondering what happened to the early morning deer. I hope it got home to it's family safely.

We've had many wild life adventures here. There was a HUGE deer in our front yard while Jordan was out there. Abby & I just watched from the window hoping it wouldn't charge Jord. I was driving at night and actually had to stop for a massive wild horse who was crossing the street!

That's awesome. Imagine, having to see a deer in the City! Strange things also happen here. In our tree outside the house, we found swarm of honey bees. Don't know what kind but there were lots and lots of them. Where they came from I really don't know.
Thanks for dropping by.

Wow thats amazing! I wonder where it came from. We have a service here called "WIRES" (can't remember what the letters stand for, sorry) that is a hotline specifically for wildlife related incidences so that if a wild animal was hit by a car then somebody who was trained in its care would come. I just assumed there would be a similar service in Canada....I think a 911 operator would wonder what substance you were under the influence of! :)

Wanda,
When Paul and I lived in Peace River, (oh how I miss that place) not a day, pardon me, an hour went by when we didn't see wildlife. We had a deer family that frequented the salt lick I put out. One of the fawns grew up and remained in our yard. She slept there every night not 15 feet from our bedroom window. I never ever took that for granted. I named her lady. We had a coyote too. Him, I named Bruce.
